Principles of Agricultural and Natural Resources

 

Course Syllabus:

 

Goals--- The students enrolled in this course will master the following objectives:

 

  1. Identify career development and opportunities in the field of Agriculture.
  2. Demonstrate Communication Skills through Public Speaking.
  3. The FFA Creed will be recited in Class.
  4. Discuss the importance of Attitude, Character, and Respect in the World of Work.
  5. Demonstrate Record Keeping Skills on a SAE Project.
  6. Discuss the role the FFA organization can play in developing leadership skills.
  7. Explain the procedure in running an effective meeting.
  8. Demonstrate an understanding of Parliamentary Procedure.
  9. Demonstrate the ability to select and evaluate livestock.
  10. Demonstrate skills in woodworking and cold metal skills.
  11. All students will complete a Wildlife Conservation Poster for the Houston Livestock Show as their Fall Final Exam.

           A Positive Attitude Will Be Required!!

Treat others as You Want To Be Treated!!

 

All Bellville ISD Rules will be followed in the Classroom!

 

Textbook—An FFA Manual, Parliamentary Guide, and handouts will be provided by the instructor. Students may have weekly quizzes on definitions and words that relate to subject area being taught.

 

Supplies: Students will be required to have a Spiral Notebook with pockets that will be kept in class!!

 

Grading Procedures—50% Daily Work (quizzes)

                                           50% Exam

Class Rules:

  1. Have all supplies ready each day.
  2. Be in your desk when the bell rings.
  3. No food, candy, or drinks are to be brought into the classroom.

 

 

FFA Activities- By being enrolled in Ag. Science class, students have the opportunity to become an FFA member. These activities are an extension of the classroom instruction. Students are encouraged to join by a once a year membership fee of Thirty Dollars!!

Horticulture

 

Course Syllabus:

 

Goals--- The students enrolled in this course will master the following objectives:

 

  1. Identify career development and opportunities in the field of Horticulture.
  2. Classify and identify foliage and flowers used in the field of Horticulture.
  3. Classify and Identify foliage and flowers used in Horticulture.
  4. Discuss the importance of Attitude, Character, and Respect in the World of Work.
  5. Demonstrate Record Keeping Skills on a SAE Project.
  6. Discuss the role the FFA organization can play in developing Horticulture skills.
  7. Demonstrate skills necessary in operating a greenhouse.
  8. Identify tools, chemicals, and equipment used in the field of Horticulture.
  9. Participation in a Career Development Event is a requirement for all students.
  10. Demonstrate Skills in maintaining a fall and spring garden.
  11. Grow and sell fall and spring bedding plants for our FFA Chapter.
